There were plenty of smiles at Summerset Falls Retirement village in Warkworth on March 29, as family and friends gathered to celebrate Ada Andrew’s 100th birthday.
Ada says she puts her long life down to “being good”.
“I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. I love my family and they all love me,” she says.
Ada says one of her favourite pastimes these days is watching Parliament on TV, but she is regularly disappointed by the standard of dress among MPs.
Charities join forces to fight personal debt
National Party MP for Kaipara ki Mahurangi Chris Penk, left, discusses New Zealanders’ personal debt problems with Christine Liggins, from Debtfix, and Michael Ward, from Christians Against Poverty.
Representatives of organisations dedicated to reducing New Zealanders’ personal debt met in Warkworth last month in a quest to deliver better help to people struggling financially.
The hui, organised by Mahurangi-based debt solution service Debtfix, came in the wake of news that planned law changes to force lenders to be more responsible, which were due to be introduced in April, have been pushed back to October.

Just before Christmas Michelle Johnson decided she had had enough of the traffic congestion in Kumeū, where every day 36,000 vehicles snake their way through the town. Over two days she took photos of bumper-to-bumper traffic at a standstill outside Kumeū on State Highway 16 heading into Auckland city and emailed them to Transport Minister Michael Wood.
What should have been a 26-minute drive from her home in Huapai to work at Avondale took 1h 45m during the morning rush and 1h 20m later in the morning.
