Listed at 6 feet, 4 inches, Ciara Gentle is already the tallest player in the history of the Evanston girls basketball program.
Just how much on an impact she will make in the future is still a question. But behind Gentle and Taija Banks, two sophomores with perhaps the most up-side as far as talent on the varsity roster, the Wildkits rolled over Highland Park 52-18 Tuesday in a Central Suburban League crossover contest.
Gentle scored a career-high 11 points and added 6 rebounds while Banks, slowed because of knee surgery for the past year and a half, logged major minutes in the blowout and netted a career-best 8 points.

COVID-19 protocols were in effect to protect players, coaches, officials and fans everywhere you looked Saturday at Beardsley Gymnasium.
But was that really Lola Lesmond behind that mask?
Adding a new physical aspect to her game, the 6-foot Evanston junior recorded her first career double-double and led the Wildkit girls basketball team to a one-sided 49-27 victory over visiting Vernon Hills in the season opener for both squads.

Lesmond s 19 points and 13 rebounds were the highlight in a ragged win for the hosts. If head coach Brittanny Johnson was in search of some teaching moments for her young and inexperienced club, she ll probably enjoy watching the film much more than witnessing the actual game Saturday.

Four players on the 2021 Evanston varsity girls basketball roster played on the freshman team last year.
Two players were in 8th grade.
Brittanny Johnson could coach at Evanston for another 20 years and not see more new faces from one season to the next.

Complicating matters further, the ETHS coach only has a 5-week season to work with, beginning on Saturday when the Wildkits host Vernon Hills in the 4 p.m. contest of a boys-girls varsity doubleheader.
Administrators in the Central Suburban League have put in place a doubleheader schedule consisting almost entirely of only league opponents, with the boys and girls alternating which varsity teams will play first. Only 50 spectators will be allowed in the stands, although ETHS fans can view all home games streaming on the National Federation of High Schools online network. Games will be broadcast on https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/evanston-township-high-school-evanston-il
