ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has received a paltry revenue of Rs1.23 billion on more than 26 million square yards of agriculture farms since the scheme was launched in 1970. These farms have been producing almost nothing for the population of Islamabad.
The 539 vegetable, fruit and poultry farms were supposed to cultivate fruits and vegetables to meet the need of the city but these have been turned into palatial residences by their owners instead.
Sources said since building houses on the permitted 12,500 square feet (initially allowed construction only on 2,250 sq ft) farmland, the owners showed little interest in cultivation, the main reason the lands on the outskirts of the capital were allotted to them at nominal prices.
