The state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hanatu Saliu said this during a brief ceremony, in Minna to release the kidnapped students, teachers and family members of Kagara Government Science College to their relatives. She disclosed that the ministry is already working out a template to ensure that the SS3 students of the College write their Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, without any problem.

They were released in the early hours of today (Saturday). Our Correspondent reliably gathered that the abductees are on their way to Minna and should be in the Niger State capital in a couple of hours. The Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel-Berje,  when contacted said though she heard about the release but that she has not been officially informed. Trying to play safe, she said: “I heard about the release but I have not been officially informed because there are still some challenges. It is when they finally arrive here in Minna and received by Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello before we really believe and celebrate,” she remarked.

11 days after abduction, Kagara schoolboys, staff, family members regain freedom

Share Barely 12 days in captivity, the abducted Kagara Government Science College students, their teachers and family members have regained freedom. The students were said to be on their way back to Minna, the state capital where they were received by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Kagara at the Niger State Development Company’s suite, near Government House, Minna. ALSO READ:  Food, medical personnel were already on ground around the Government House awaiting the released Students and their staff and family members. Security was however tight at the government house with thorough screening of every vehicle and individuals streaming into the NSCDC suite directly behind Hon. Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre Minna opposite the Government House, Minna.

They said they were fed only once a day and suffered untold hardship. In a brief interview with newsmen shortly after meeting with the state Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello some of the students, they said what happened to them was like a dream. Suleiman Lawal, 18 years said, “We suffered so much in the hands of the kidnappers. I have never experienced such in my life. In fact, I thought I was dreaming because the torture was too much for us. I am happy now that we have been freed. They fed us with beans once daily and they gave all of us five sachet water to drink and that made us very weak. I don’t think I will like to go to that school anymore except there is enough security.
