Trial of Nigeria s Muslim cleric Ibrahim Zakzaky and wife resumes

The ongoing trial of the Shiite leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim Zakzaky, resumes at the Kaduna State High Court. Prosecutors presented three witnesses and provided new evidence in their case against the embattled religious leader. However, the case was adjourned to the 31st of March 2021. Chris Umar, the solicitor general of Kaduna state, outlined events: At 11:30 am, we were back to the court and then we continue hearing, three of our witnesses were taken for the prosecution and then we have one more witness that we are unable to bring before the court today so the matter has been adjourned to the 31st of March, 2021 for the continuation of the hearing.

  The trial of the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat, resumes today at the Kaduna State High Court. The presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada had during the last sitting on January 26, adjourned the case to March 8 and 9 after the prosecution counsel, Chris Umar presented two more witnesses before the court. However, only one of the witnesses testified before the court at the last sitting, while the other one is expected to testify in today’s sitting. Elzakzaky and his wife are standing trial on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of the public peace, among others

El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat   The couple have been in detention since their arrest in December 2015 following a bloody clash between the Shiites and soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna State. Speaking to reporters after the court proceedings, counsel to El-Zakzaky says the prosecution is expected to close its case in the next sitting. He also said that the management of the Nigerian Correctional service have been served with the court order for the evacuation of Elzakzaky’s wife to a treatment Centre. – El-Zakzaky’s Wife COVID-19 Status- A Kaduna State High court presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada on Monday admitted evidence that Zeenat Elzakzaky has tested positive to COVID-19.
