Sulthan, fronted by Karthi and Rashmika Mandanna has recorded a solid weekend at the box-office in Tamil Nadu. The action-packed entertainer has raked in Rs 4.5 crore (Gross) on its third day taking the opening weekend total to Rs 13 crore, which is the highest till date for the leading hero, Karthi, by surpassing the weekend biz of Kadaikutty Singam (Rs 11 crore), Kaithi (Rs 10.80 crore), Theeran (Rs 10.35 crore) and Dev (Rs 7.15 crore). Actor Vinay Rai, who is waiting for the release of Sivakarthikeyan s Doctor, might share screen space with Suriya in his upcoming film with director Pandiraj. Post the success of Karthi s Kadaikutty Singam, Suriya announced that he will be teaming up with the director of the film, Pandiraj, for a rural entertainer. The project will have music composed by D Imman and will be bankrolled by Sun Pictures.

The film begins with a voiceover that introduces us to Parthi (Manikandan making yet another case of his potential to be a lead hero) and his father Muthukutty (a brilliant Samuthirakani). Theirs is a world where everything doesn’t always happen for a reason, a world without binaries that Halitha takes time to build. Muthukutty is shown to be a bad father, but Halitha ensures we don’t label him as a bad man. Parthi is neither a great son nor is he likely to win ‘boyfriend of the year’ awards.
