EACC to probe Baringo MCAs over chaotic rejection of BBI Bill

THE STANDARD By Julius Chepkwony | February 19th 2021 at 08:29:03 GMT +0300 The anti-graft agency has launched investigations into the conduct of Baringo ward representatives over the chaotic debate and rejection of Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 last week. According to a letter written to the leadership of the county assembly by the Ethnics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), dated February 17, eighteen people, including the Speaker, deputy speaker, clerk, principal Serjeant-at-arms and 12 MCAs are required to appear before investigators at the commission’s South Rift Regional office in Nakuru on various dates between February 22 and 24. Those summoned are David Ngeno (Principal Serjeant-at-arms), Amos Kiprop (Serjeant-at-arms), Tobole Sumokwo (Serjeant-at-arms), David Kiplagat (Speaker), Jacob Cheboiwo (Deputy Speaker), Richard Koech (Clerk) and the 12 Ward reps.

Busia and West Pokot counties have passed the Building Bridges Initiative Constitutional (Amendment) Bill. The two counties became the fourth and fifth counties after Siaya, Kisumu and Homa Bay counties to pass the Bill on Tuesday.   In Busia, Members of the County Assembly unanimously endorsed the documents. Three ward representatives filed the petition seeking orders to stop Speaker David Kerich from certifying the results of the February 11 sittings that turned chaotic. They want him not to act in any manner whatsoever in implementing the decision of the members on the day the Bill was rejected.
