Eternal surprise Fuel to open Countdown Cup qualifiers

The 2021 Overwatch League Countdown Cup kicked off Friday with explosive action as the Paris Eternal and Houston Outlaws picked up wins.
The Paris Eternal (7-6, 7 points) picked up its biggest win of the season to start the Countdown Cup, taking down the top team in the Western Region, the DallasFuel (9-4, 15 points), in a 3-2 nail-biter of a series. With the Countdown Cup s hero bans of Sigma, Echo, Ashe and Lucio, the Fuel were forced to play new compositions compared to what they had run for the entire season, namely Lucio-enabled brawl. The Eternal proved better at adapting to this new meta, running Wrecking Ball and Pharah compositions at a high level throughout the series.
Outlaws defeat Shock in battle of Western heavyweights

Paris Eternal, Dallas Fuel and Houston Outlaws picked up wins Saturday in the Western Region of the 2021 Overwatch League.
In a match of heavyweights, the Houston Outlaws (8-1, 8 points) picked up a 3-1 win over the San Francisco Shock (9-3, 9 points).
The Shock came into this match still trying to find consistency from their support lineup, while the Outlaws wanted to start their Summer Showdown campaign on a high note. While San Francisco put up a fight early, Houston dominated the second half of the series en route to a big win.
San Francisco, Atlanta grab wins in Summer Showdown qualifiying

Friday s slate of action saw the San Francisco Shock and the Atlanta Reign pick up wins in Summer Showdown qualifiers.
The San Francisco Shock (9-2, 9 points) put up a much-needed win against a red-hot Paris Eternal (5-6, 5 points), taking the series 3-1. Last week, the Shock looked disorganizedand without a clear plan for most of their series against the London Spitfire (0-10). This week, however, San Francisco showed vast improvements in both planning and execution.
The Shock started with a 2-1 win on Nepal, then San Francisco took Watchpoint: Gibraltar 3-2. The Shock showed versatility in their wins, running brawl on Nepal and running traditional Wrecking Ball-led poke on Gibraltar. Paris had some success on a variety of compositions as well, but they couldn t stack up to the star power of the Shock.
