Resistance to new house on Kaaimans River

GEORGE NEWS - Plans to build on a property on the banks of the Kaaimans River near the river mouth and railway bridge are receiving some opposition. The 1 671m² property, portion 36 of Farm 195, was recently acquired by Carl Ahlstrom and Rod Hossack of Donegal Deck Pty (Ltd). They are proposing to build a main dwelling and two separate guest rooms, totalling an area of about 351m². Another property owner in Kaaimans, Peter Lilienfeld, has started a petition against the development and has raised concern about how access is to be gained to the property and the visual and ecological impact of the proposed dwelling.

GEORGE NEWS - Construction of a satellite fire station in Wilderness, 14km outside George, has commenced this week. Two bodies wash up near Kleinkrantz

The entrance to the cave. Update GEORGE NEWS - Early in the new year two bodies were found on separate days near Kleinkrantz. On 10 January a fisherman discovered the badly decomposed body of an unknown man washed up on the beach. According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, the body has not yet been identified due to the advanced stage of decomposition. This gruesome find came mere days after another man s body was found floating in the sea near the same beach on Wednesday 6 January. Spies could not confirm this man s identity either, or whether it was the cave dweller who went missing on 2 January, as police are still awaiting feedback from the DNA analysis.

Man drowns in Hermanus in the Western Cape

City of Cape Town One man drowned after jumping into the sea in Hermanus. A second man went missing after getting into difficulty near the Kaaimans River mouth.  One man died and another is missing following two drowning incidents in the Western Cape. On Saturday, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) crews responded to two drowning incidents in Hermanus and the Wilderness. In Hermanus, the NSRI crew received a report of a drowning in progress near Ficks Pool at around 16:30. NSRI Hermanus station commander Andre Barnard said witnesses saw a man getting into difficulty after jumping into the sea. A local man, who is a Hermanus Neighbourhood Watch member and former NSRI Hermanus volunteer, entered the water to assist the casualty and he was assisted by lifeguards who had responded to assist, added Barnard.
