Electric-vehicle investors are going to have to get used to hearing about competition from companies other than traditional auto makers. On Sunday, Chinese internet search company Baidu announced it’s teaming up with Chinese auto maker Geely to build a smart EV.
The news doesn’t come as a shock to EV and auto investors. Baidu (ticker: BIDU) has been rumored to be looking into cars for a while. Now it is official. And reports have been circulating that Apple (AAPL) is looking at building a smart EV. Apple has declined to comment.
