of doing nothing still doesn t have the solid policy we ought to be working to undermine and replace this regime peacefully if possible. patti ann: well, peacefully replacing it, you know, the obama administration keeps on saying, oh, let s keep on seeing if these sanctions are going to work. are the sanctions having any effect? this. they re having some, but the problem is, again, china, and china doesn t enforce sanctions under u.n. resolutions. the ability to move cash around is a much more effective mechanism. also across the board political warfare, we should aid the dissent movement in north korea. our national endowment for democracy and other instruments that we re supposed to be using to do this are failing at this. but, you know, across the board helping dissidents in north korea, putting pressure on the regime financially and, you know, coming forward with a unified front with the democratic countries of the pacific, japan, australia, korea, the u.s. would be a better appr
and that it puts a lot of americans lives in danger. but theygo involved whether it s secretary of state or whether it s the justice department, they re going to have to do something. congress is going to hold hearings on this. they just can t let this continue. they re going to have to try to do something, though it s not easy. you re dealing with international law and lawyers trying to figure out what is possible, what can both the u.s. and their allies do to crack down on this? it s a very complicated issue. patti ann: very complicated. what are some of the proposals? many obviously, we ve heard some members of congress coming out with lots of ideas ranging from the mild to the severe. what do you see as most like hi that can actually happen here to stop this? well, i think number one there s going to have to be a bipartisan outcry. i think that congress is going to have to hold a lot of hearings and hold their feet to the fire and make threats that, basically, if this happens ag
