New Jersey Transit has received a $766.5 million grant agreement from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the $1.888 billion two-track, fixed-span Portal North Bridge Project in Hudson County. The committed FTA funds will go toward replacing the 110-year-old Portal Bridge across the Hackensack River in the New Jersey Meadowlands. The Federal Highway Administration is providing some $57 million for the project. NJ Transit and Amtrak will provide the balance of funding, about $977 million, and share operating and maintenance.

U.S. Secretary of Transporation Elaine L. Chao announces $14 billion for nation's public transit systems during COVID-19 emergency

Lester The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) today announced a total of $14 billion in Federal funding allocations to continue to support the Nation’s public transportation systems during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency. Funding is provided through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 (CRRSAA) (H.R. 133), signed by President Donald J. Trump on December 27, 2020. FTA previously announced $25 billion in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding in April 2020. “This additional $14 billion in transit infrastructure grants will help ensure our nation’s public transportation systems can continue to serve the millions of Americans who depend on them,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

It's official: FTA funds Portal North Bridge Project - Railway Track and Structures

The Federal Transit Administration has awarded a key grant to the Portal North Bridge Project. The U.S. DOT’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced a $766.5 million Capital Investment Grant (CIG) agreement with New Jersey Transit Corporation (New Jersey Transit) for the Portal North Bridge Project in Hudson County, N.J. The project will improve the reliability of commuter rail service between New Jersey and New York by increasing capacity and reducing bridge maintenance expenses of the 100-year old bridge. “This $766.5 million federal grant agreement will greatly improve the reliability of commuter rail and Amtrak service for thousands of passengers traveling through the Northeast Corridor, one of the busiest rail lines in the nation,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.

Feds Approve $529.8M for Phoenix Light Rail

SHARE January 8, 2021 The newest line of Phoenix s Valley Metro light rail is one step closer to reality, according to KTar News. The public transportation network received $529.8 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration on Wednesday. The funding will go towards Valley Metro’s 5.5-mile South Central light rail extension/downtown hub project, connecting south Phoenix with the downtown corridor. The grant will cover close to a third of the $1.35 billion project, according to the release, with another $108 million coming from the Federal Highway Administration. The extension project fits the FTA’s mission, according to deputy administrator K. Jane Williams, as it improves access to places of employment and various other services for Phoenix residents.
