Lori Ewing April 25, 2021 - 9:26 AM Athletics Canada faces another huge challenge in getting its relay teams to the starting line at the Tokyo Olympics this summer. After the global pandemic erased most of the 2020 season, Canada had pinned its qualifying hopes on next week s World Athletics Relays in Silesia, Poland, but announced Saturday night it was withdrawing due to surging COVID-19 cases in that country. Canada, which won bronze in the men s 4x100-metre relay at the Rio Games, has only qualified the women s 4x400 for Tokyo. That was by virtue of its eighth-place finish at the 2019 world championships in Doha, Qatar.

Trayvon Bromell and Noah Lyles had all eyes on them in the 100m. In the Nike Men’s 100m, many had Lyles as the favorite and rightfully so, but Bromell had a strong indoor season and some 200m races last month showed his fitness. After posting a 10.01 in the prelims, Bromell followed it up with a 10.01 performance in the final, good enough for first.
