Sheriff investigating a fatal crash in the Town of Barker
TOWN OF BARKER (WBNG) Authorities in Broome County are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 79 in the Town of Barker Tuesday morning.
The Broome County Sheriff s Office said 37-year-old Justin Chordas of Chenango Forks died as a result of serious injuries.
The Sheriff s Office said patrols responded to a report of a serious crash around 6:30 a.m. between a pick-up truck and a sedan.
Upon arrival, the Sheriff s Office said they found Chordas trapped in a Chevrolet HHR. They said he was unconscious.
The Sheriff s Office said Chordas was extricated by fire officials by the jaws of life and was taken to Wilson Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 7:30 a.m.
McLain was alert and conscious, and complaining of back and knee pain, the sheriff s office said.
Fire department personnel extricated Chordas from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life. He was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, where he was pronounced dead around 7:35 a.m.
McLain was also taken to Wilson Medical Center. His condition was not available.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated Chordas was entering the roadway from a driveway while McLain was traveling southeast on state Route 79 toward the hamlet of Chenango Forks when the collision took place.
The highway was closed for nearly three hours after the crash, and was reopened to traffic shortly before 10 a.m.
