Wetlands protections too important to weaken
The state over the past century has lost millions of acres of wetlands to farming and development, and more could be lost if Indiana lawmakers pass an ill-considered bill that would gut important environmental protections.
Senate Bill 389 – authored by Sens. Chris Garten, R-Charlestown; Mark Messmer, R-Jasper; and Linda Rogers, R-Granger – would repeal the state s wetlands law, paving the way for development in areas protected by the state after federal Clean Water Act protections were lifted last year by the Trump administration. Co-authors include Sens. Liz Brown and Justin Busch, both Fort Wayne Republicans.
