Regular court functions to remain suspended during strict lockdown

The SC administration issued three separate notifications today to this effect. The notifications upheld the earlier decisions saying that Court No-1 of the Appellate Division (a full bench of the Appellate Division headed by the chief justice) will run judicial functions from 9:30 am to 12 pm on every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday and its chamber judge will deal with cases from 11 am on every Monday and Wednesday. Four High Court benches three-division benches (two-judge) and a single-member (one judge) out of total 52 will perform judicial functions virtually to deal with the urgent writ, civil, criminal, company, and admiralty related petitions.

SC orders suspected JMB member Toufikul to surrender in 2 weeks Star Digital Report Star Digital Report The Supreme Court today directed a suspected member of banned militant group Jama atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Chapainwabganj, Md Toufikul Islam alias doctor Toufik, to surrender before the trial court concerned in two weeks in connection with a case filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The apex court also stayed a High Court order that granted ad-interim bail to Toufik in the case filed with Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj in 2018. A six-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the state challenging the HC order of bail.

14 virtual courts to deal with bail petitions, other urgent matters April 12-19 Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court formed 14 virtual courts today, which will function digitally to deal with bail petitions and other urgent matters between April 12 and 19. Eight of the newly formed virtual courts will only hear bail petitions of accused who have been arrested in cases filed with the 50 police stations in the capital, while one will hear petitions regarding furnishing bail bond of anticipatory bails secured from the High Court. Five other courts will hear the petitions of City Corporation, PalliBidyut, DPDC, DESCO, and Marine courts of the capital.
