HYDERABAD: The Telangana HC on Monday pulled up state police for incarcerating a pregnant woman under the draconian Prevention of Dangerous Activities (PD) Act.
The bench of Justice A Rajasheker Reddy and Justice Shameem Akther sat aside the detention oder. It told the home department’s counsel, T Srikanth Reddy, that it won’t tolerate such detentions while hearing a petition challenging the detention of Akula Swati, a resident of Nalgonda. She has been accused of duping people with the false promise of getting them a dealership of Tupperware. Many people who lost money complained against her after which police detained her under PD Act on May 7. At present, she is six months pregnant and has a five-year-old son to look after to.
