The High Court imposed Tk 10,000 fine on Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond today for not appearing before it, after filing a writ petition challenging the legality of the ongoing lockdown .
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir also dismissed the writ petition for default , saying that lawyer Eunus Ali Akond very often files writ petitions as public interest litigation and briefs the media about them, but he does not appear before the court during the hearing.

The High Court has ordered S Alam Group to pay Tk 500,000 to each of the families of the six people killed in a clash between police and workers at a power plant under construction in Chattogram’s Banshkhali. );

The ordered was issued by Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir on Tuesday, following a hearing of two petitions filed by Ain o Salish Kendra and the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association and four other rights organisations.
During the hearing, lawyer Md Arshadur Rouf, who represented S Alam Group at the meeting, said that the company was paying Tk 300,000 in compensation to the family of each victim.

The High Court yesterday directed S Alam Group, one of the owners of SS Power I Plant in Chattogram s Banshkhali upazila, to immediately give Tk 5 lakh to each of the families of the seven victims who were killed after police opened fire during a demonstration by workers on April 17.
In response to two writ petitions, the HC asked the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police of Chattogram to submit their inquiry reports to it in 45 days.
S Alam Group has also been ordered to submit a report on what measures it has taken to compensate the families of the deceased and injured and also for their treatment to the HC in 45 days.

The High Court today directed S Alam Group, owner of SS Power I Plant of Banshkhali in Chattogram, to give Tk 5 lakh as initial cost to the family of each victim killed in police firing on April 17 this year.
In response to two separate writ petitions, the HC asked the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Chattogram to submit their inquiry reports over the incident in 45 days.
S Alam Group has also been ordered to submit a report on what measures it has taken to compensate the deceased s families and those who were injured and also for their treatments to the HC in 45 days.
HC refuses to entertain writ petition seeking ‘comprehensive plan to prevent Covid-19’

A High Court bench today refused to entertain a writ petition that sought its directive on the government to formulate comprehensive national short, mid- and long-term plan in order to prevent spread of Covid-19 and to vaccinate all vulnerable citizens irrespective of age.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir told the petitioners that no such emergency situation has been created in the country at this moment that this court should pass an order. The government has been trying its best to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic and is now trying to bring Covid-19 vaccine from more than three countries. If we make any interference in this situation, a panic might be created in society, Justice Enayetur Rahim said.
