The Court of Appeals has ordered the military to investigate and locate the case of the two missing labor organizers, who are allegedly kept inside their camp, as it issued a protective writ for the two.
MANILA - The Court of Appeals (CA) has affirmed the decision of a local court in Cagayan finding a bus company liable for over PHP3 million in damages over a highway accident that killed a police officer in May 2010. In a 10-page decision dated February 23 written by Associate Justice Ronaldo Roberto Martin and published online this week, the CA's Sixth Division affirmed the 2019 ruling of the Tuguegarao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 1 against G.V. Florida Transport, Inc. with interest. The case arose from an accident arising from a collision in the early morning of May 17, 2010 along the national highway in Barangay Darapidap, Aritao Nueva Ecija between a Florida passenger bus and a Toyota Revo with then Police Supt. Teodorico Danao and Police Officer 1 (PO1) Reginald Ramos onboard. Court of Appeals (File photo) MANILA - The Court of Appeals (CA) has affirmed the ruling of a Manila court convicting a ship captain for estafa after defrauding a local shipping company of PHP5 million to invest in a mining firm. In a resolution dated November 18 and uploaded recently, the CA upheld its earlier decision against Moreno Estrada as the prosecution "proved beyond reasonable doubt all the elements of estafa with abuse of confidence". In May, Estrada appealed the Jan. 15, 2021 decision of the CA which had affirmed the Manila Regional Trial Court's (Branch 173) 2018 sentencing of the skipper to up to seven years behind bars. The lower court also ordered Estrada to indemnify Philunion Shipping Inc. PHP4.5million and pay for the litigation costs.
