Last June, Ben & Jerry’s tweeted out, “The murder of George Floyd was the result of inhumane police brutality that is perpetuated by a culture of white supremacy.” Amid a flurry of empty corporate scurrying to get out any sort of Black Lives Matter public statement, it was by far the strongest language by a brand on the issue.

The ice cream maker’s actions weren’t limited to a tweet though. It was a reflection of a long commitment to social and racial justice. One that’s only continued after its bold public statement. Since then, the company has released a limited flavor called Justice Remix’d, to raise awareness and funds for criminal justice reform, and used marketing content to spread that message. Justice Remix’d is also the banner under which Ben & Jerry’s works with activists to create change. Last July, the company succeeded with its partner Close the Workhouse
Ben & Jerry have been mixing ice cream with activism for decades
Ben & Jerry joined Rachel Belle in the latest episode of Your Last Meal.
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are the ice cream equivalent of Cher and Madonna: They need only be introduced by their first names. Best friends since middle school, these boyhood buddies are just as well known for their activism as they are for creating flavors like Cherry Garcia and Chubby Hubby. They’re unabashedly political and have worked for equality-for-all by raising awareness and money for environmental and social justice causes through flavors like Justice ReMix’d, Empower Mint, Yes Pecan!, and Bernie’s Yearning.
In case you missed the memo, Ben & Jerry’s has
been about that action.
Need receipts? Here’s what I wrote about them last year when the premium ice cream company partnered with the Advancement Project to release the flavor Justice Remix’d as part of their efforts “to address the destructive cycle of mass incarceration in our country”:
It’s not uncommon to find posts admonishing the criminal justice system or systemic racism on their website, and since May 2018 they’ve spent over a million dollars on Facebook ads denouncing mass incarceration, advocating for mental health funding and demanding criminal justice reform. And according to the revered ice cream manufacturer, they’re just getting started.
The only surprising part is that it took this long to create it.
Despite an abject lack of on-field accomplishments the media and leftist activists continue to force Colin Kaepernick onto the general public. His most notable achievement has been in opposing the police in this country, a stance that saw him elevated anew this year during the Black Lives Matter upheaval. This led to his being included in the latest release of the
Madden 2021 video game, despite being out of the league for four seasons. Now comes word that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream has created a new flavor to honor the deposed QB – ‘’Change The Whirled’’.
Colin Kaepernick Teams Up With Ben & Jerry’s For New Social Justice Flavor: ‘Change The Whirled’
Ben & Jerry’s debuted their latest ice cream flavor combination this week and, much to the dismay of millions of patriotic Americans who love this country, it’s name is inspired by none other than former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Of course, Colin Kaepernick’s new Ben & Jerry’s flavor is vegan and social justice friendly!

Yahoo News reported that “Colin Kaepernick’s Change the Whirled” is a vegan, nondairy frozen dessert that is set to launch through Ben & Jerry’s in 2021.
