The HC directed SMHA that attempts should be made to discharge at least 50 to 70 eligible patients every month from mental health establishments to either their family homes or the rehabilitation centre/halfway homes.
Last month, the HC had directed the State Mental Health Authority to give a plan of action for next three months related to rehabilitation of nearly 1,022 patients found fit for their discharge
The HC was also told that 94 of 263 patients could not be discharged as they are either physically or mentally challenged and a plan of action regarding them will be placed by the Commissioner of Disabilities before the court.
The court says several errors had crept into the closure order because of the ‘expeditiousness of decision-making’ and failure to duly consider the firm's reply.
The state government on August 17 reiterated its request to reinvestigate and re-examine the whole voters’ list and directed the MU under Section 8 (7) (state's power in case of failure of university to exercise powers or perform duties) of Maharashtra Public Universities Act to postpone elections till publication of revised voters’ list, the affidavit reads.
