Royal Corpse hijack: Court fixes April 26 for hearing

A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Tuesday, fixed April 26 as the date for the hearing of the suit pertaining to the forceful hijacking of the remains of the late monarch of the Alaye Aba of Aba, Aiyepe Ijebu in Odogbolu local government area of the state by members of the Incorporated Osugbo Secret Society.
The suit was filed by the three daughters of the departed monarch; Mrs Aderonke Egunjimi, Mrs Tiwalade Abass and Mrs Adeyemi Joseph seeking the court’s order to declare the action of the Osugbo Secret Society members as unlawful, a violation of their fundamental human rights and a request for payment of damage caused to the family by their action.

Family of the late Alaye – Aba of Aba Ayepe, Ogun State, Oba Rauf Adebayo Raji-Suleimon, has dragged members of the Osugbo society in Ijebuland before a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, for allegedly hijacking the corpse of the deceased traditional ruler from them.
DAILY POST learnt that the monarch, who died on January 22, 2021, was allegedly hijacked and forcefully removed from the custody of his family by the Osugbo society.
It was gathered that the traditionalists insisted that the monarch must be buried according to traditional rites, being an Oba.
But, the family disagreed with the Osugbo society, saying the monarch, being a practising Muslim, must be buried according to Islamic rites.

Justice P. Mallong of the Kaduna Federal High Court has ordered the remand of one Collins Samuel in a custodial centre for allegedly defrauding the United States of America of the sum of $8,000.
Samuel, under the guise of being an American citizen, reportedly received the $8,000 offered to citizens of Virginia State under its Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on one count bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretences.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Thursday, said investigation revealed that Samuel redeemed the $8,000 benefit through the Bitcoin wallet addresses he got from various cryptocurrency traders.

The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, secured the conviction of six internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, Ogun State and Ibadan, Oyo State.
In Abeokuta, Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta convicted five persons after finding them guilty of separate amended one-count charge bordering on impersonation contrary to Section 22 (20) (b) (i) and punishable under Section 22(2) (b) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.
While two persons were sentenced to two months in prison; two others bagged three months imprisonment, and the last person bagged four months.
