DHA, CBC put on notice over issue of flooding during monsoon

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC), Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and others on a petition seeking removal of all encroachments from the Gizri creek and the plain, and restore all natural outfalls into the sea so that storm water could flow out to the sea without any obstruction.
The petitioners, Ahmad Shabbar and others, residents of Defence, submitted in the petition that the DHA had encroached upon the Gizri creek estuary and the land around the Mehmoodabad drain which was the permanent cause of flooding in the area threatening life and property of its residents during the monsoon season.
SHC orders Fuuast to maintain status quo on fresh appointments

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday ordered the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) and its acting vice chancellor (VC) to maintain status quo with regard to the announcement of fresh appointments of lecturers, associate professors, etc. in any department of the varsity till further orders.
The interim order came on a petition of Rasheed Khan and others who challenged the fresh appointment criteria by the varsity and the announcement of test results by the selection board.
The petitioners submitted that they had applied for different posts in BPS-18 to 21 in the university but the Fuuast administration conducted tests against the varsity’s own rules and policy.

Cooperative societies registrar told not to take action against Railways employees society

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has restrained the assistant registrar Cooperative Societies from passing any order in pursuance of the show-cause notice issued to the Pakistan Railways Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PRECHS) till further orders.
The interim order came on a petition filed by the PRECHS that impugned the show-cause notice issued by the assistant registrar of the cooperative societies with regard to functions of the society.
A counsel for the petitioner submitted that the impugned notice was itself issued in derogation of the principles of the natural justice. He alleged that the registrar had first sought illegal gratification and upon refusal of the society’s management to give in to their unlawful demands, the registrar office issued the impugned notice.
SHC sets aside single bench observation regarding continuation of notification

The Sindh High Court’s appellate bench on Friday set aside the SHC’s single bench observation with regard to the continuation of a notification about appointment of the Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) vice chancellor and ordered that the notification shall remain suspended till the hearing of the pending applications.
The order came on a high court appeal filed by Prof Dr Lubna Ansari seeking an injunction against the issuance of a notification for the appointment of Prof Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon as the JSMU VC despite interim restraining orders of the high court.
