Jacob Zuma, will not stand for election to Parliament. In an unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Leona Theron on Monday, the court found that Zuma was neither eligible nor qualified to stand for election. The Constitutional Court ruled that the 15 months sentence it previously imposed on him for contempt bars him from standing for election.
South Africa is set to hold a general election next week in which the ruling African National Congress (ANC) could lose its majority for the first time since 1994. Jacob Zuma's MK party could cut into the ANC's base.
