As a community and civil rights activist, I am exceptionally honored to write this annual column in recognition of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in commemoration of his charismatic life and legacy and to present the 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights and Justice Legacy Award recipients.
Historically, Dr. King’s life and legacy was the struggle of African-Americans for racial equality and civil rights and justice. For many years, this charismatic Baptist minister and his legion of followers confronted the humiliating system of segregation that kept African-Americans second-class citizens.
