Adoption drops by a third as social workers fail to home black children with white families
Charities say that no child should be waiting in care longer because of the colour of their skin

The number of adopted children has dropped by a third in five years, Government data has shown, amid concerns that social workers are refusing to home black children with white families.
The latest figures from the Department of Education showed that only 3,440 children were placed into adoption after being in care, down from a high of 5,360 in 2015.
Charities have warned that as the data only shows children leaving care before the pandemic, next year’s figures will “undoubtedly” be lower.
