ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said on Tuesday the anti-corruption watchdog will never take any action to harass any genuine businessman, but will go after those who commit fraud with people.
Addressing businessmen at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he maintained the bureau had never asked any businessman about his source of capital and investment, except in money laundering cases. “NAB has never stopped any investment project as they are greatly contributing to strengthen the country’s economy.”
Justice Iqbal said he had already issued instructions to the NAB authorities that no businessman should be called through telephone to the bureau office nor he should be humiliated in any manner.
LAHORE: Apparently in response to the criticism of Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala, National Accountability Bureau Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal has said some elements have launched a propaganda against it but NAB will continue following ‘merit’ in all cases.
Referring indirectly to Mr Mandviwala, the chairman said: “I ask from those who only criticise NAB but they need to tell where it commits mistakes. Criticism only for the sake of criticism is not justified,” he said at the cheques distribution among the affected people of Model Housing Enclave Project and Ferozepur Housing Society here on Wednesday at bureau’s provincial headquarters Thokar Niaz Beg.
ISLAMABAD: Senior PML-N leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi accused the government of blackmailing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman as well as the judiciary.
Talking to journalists before appearing in the accountability court of Islamabad in connection with the proceedings in LNG terminal case on Friday, Mr Abbasi termed NAB chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal an ‘aggrieved’ person.
Mr Abbasi appointed Justice Iqbal as NAB chairman when he was prime minister.
He said the PTI government also blackmailed the deceased judge of accountability court Arshad Malik to convict three-time elected former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that on the one hand, the government was blackmailing judges and, on the other, ministers were demanding bribe from private companies.
