The Court of Appeal has dismissed an illegitimate daughter’s attempt to have her half-siblings personally liable for costs relating to court proceedings on their deceased father’s estate.
An eight-year legal saga involving a secret daughter laying claim to her late estranged Taranaki father’s estate has continued in court, with the woman and her half-siblings battling over costs.
The court proceedings made headlines in 2019 when the woman, born from an extra-marital relationship, was that year awarded 70 per cent of her biological father s estate, worth $615,000, after being ignored in his will. She returned to court after it was ordered that costs of more than $200,000 were to be paid from the estate, shrinking her share.
