Published June 3, 2021 12:56pm Candidates vying for the Supreme Court (SC) associate justice post expressed their views on legal issues brought to the high tribunal in recent years such as the quo warranto as a remedy to remove a sitting magistrate and same-sex marriage. During the public interview organized by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), Court of Appeals magistrate Ronaldo Roberto Martin said justices of the SC could only be removed by impeachment, not through a quo warranto petition, which challenges the eligibility of a person to occupy a certain post. In May 2018, Maria Lourdes Sereno was removed from her post as Chief Justice when the SC voted 8-6 to grant the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
