David Douglas murder case will hear of carefully planned assassination

A MAN who has gone on trial for the murder of David Douglas nearly five years ago was the person who literally pulled the trigger , the Special Criminal Court has heard. Lee Canavan (31) was this morning arraigned before the non-jury court where he pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Douglas at a shop on Bridgefoot Street, Dublin 8, on July 1, 2016. The accused, of no fixed abode, also denies a second charge of criminal damage of a Suzuki Swift car at Strand Road, Sandymount, three days later. This morning barristers on behalf of Mr Canavan also said their client was challenging the jurisdiction of the Special Criminal Court and was seeking to rely on the outcome of a separate ongoing judicial review.
