Go back to law school, judge tells PG Hodzi  - Zimbabwe Situation

Go back to law school, judge tells PG Hodzi  By Desmond Chingarande THE glaring legal deficiencies in Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi, who was preferred for the job despite faring poorly in public interviews held in 2019, were exposed on Thursday when High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi asked him to go back to the law school and familiarise himself with the country’s statutes after he spectacularly bungled a bail appeal in a high-profile robbery case. Justice Chitapi said this while dismissing Hodzi’s appeal against bail granted to suspected notorious armed robber, Musa Taj Abdul, his accomplices Rudolph Tapiwa Kanhanga and Godfrey Mupamhanga. The trio was granted bail by High Court judge Benjamin Chikowero last December.

PG Hodzi s Effort To Nail Notorious Armed Robber Taj Abdul Flops

By Mary Taruvinga EFFORTS by Prosecutor General (PG) Kumbirai Hodzi to have suspected notorious armed robber Musa Taj Abdul jailed hit a brick wall after High Court judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi dismissed his application due to lack of merit. Abdul and his accomplices Rudolph Tapiwa Kanhanga and Godfrey Mupamhanga were arrested in August last year before they were granted bail by High Court judge, Justice Benjamin Chikowero following a successful appeal. However, the trio could not enjoy its freedom as it was charged with more armed robbery counts before release following a public outcry. Hodzi then filed an application calling for committal of the three to jail adding Justice Chikowero’s bail order should be revisited.

Marry Mubaiwa s Court Application Seeking Treatment In SA Dismissed

By Staff Reporter HIGH Court judge, Justice Benjamin Chikowero has dismissed Marry Mubaiwa’s application for her bail conditions to be relaxed to enable her to travel to South Africa for medical treatment. However, the judge dismissed Mubaiwa’s application ruling the case lacked merit. “Applicant has placed inadequate information before the court to warrant alteration of her bail condition. In the result, the application is dismissed,” Justice Chikowero ruled. He said Mubaiwa had failed to substantiate her claims. “She has produced neither medical reports nor other medical records to substantiate her assertion that she had failed to obtain the care that she needs in this country. I only have Mr. Makarawo’s letter, written on November, 6, 2020. So there is that gap in the evidence,” he noted.
