New Delhi witnessed the initiation of the interpretation process of Article 39(b) of the Constitution by a nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court. The objective is to ascertain if the directive principle permits the government to handle and redistribute privately owned properties under the guise of material resources of the community for the betterment of the common good.

Dangerous to say govt can t take over private property: SC

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the Constitution intended to bring about a sense of social transformation and it would be dangerous to say that the private property of an individual cannot be regarded as material resources of community and taken over by state authorities to subserve common good .
