Police identify San Diego valet killed, four people hurt in Gaslamp Quarter shooting

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â San Diego Police have identified the four people injured in a deadly shooting in the Gaslamp Quarter last week.
Police said 27-year-old Vincent Gazzani, of Perrineville, N.J.; 68-year-old Steven Ely, of San Diego; 26-year-old Alexander Balis, of Mullica Hill, N.J.; and 28-year-old Jatil Kodati, of Jersey City, N.J., were injured by gunfire after a man opened fire in two separate shootings in downtown on April 22.
According to police, Gazzani was shot in his upper body and is still hospitalized in stable condition; Ely was shot in the torso and is hospitalized in stable condition; Balis has since been released from the hospital after being shot in the arm; and Kodati was treated at the scene and released after being shot in the arm.
GASLAMP QUARTER (KUSI) – In the aftermath of a shooting last week which killed one and injured four others in San Diego’s Gaslamp District, the Gaslamp Quarter Association has worked with San Diego police to ramp up safety patrols in the quarter.
Michael Trimble, President of the Gaslamp Quarter Association, joined KUSI’s Logan Byrnes on Good Evening San Diego to discuss the new safety measures.
Trimble emphasized that the Gaslamp Quarter Association really wants people to feel the area is safe enough to return to.
The assailant used an untraceable “ghost gun,” which does not contain commercial serial numbers because they are often homemade or improvised.
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Authorities Monday publicly identified five men who were wounded one fatally during a shooting rampage last week in the Gaslamp District by an assailant armed with an untraceable “ghost gun.”
Parking valet Justice Boldin, 28, was standing on a sidewalk in front of Pendry San Diego Hotel in the 500 block of J Street about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when a man walked up to him, pulled a 9mm pistol and shot him without provocation, according to police.
“The (shooter) began to walk away, but quickly turned and fired again at the victim,” Lt. Andra Brown said.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, ABC 10News spoke to the medics who are credited with saving the life of one of the men who was injured during last week s shooting in the Gaslamp Quarter.
A valet attendant was killed. Three tourists and a San Diegan were injured before police captured the gunman. We saw the guy shooting at the people. We just took a few steps back. We didn t know what was going on, said Shai Gino. He and Dvir Benesh are former soldiers who served in the Israeli army and now live in San Diego where they work as home remodelers. They re in their mid-20s.
3 N.J. residents wounded in ‘ghost gun’ attack in San Diego that left 1 person dead

SAN DIEGO Four people who were wounded in an unprovoked “ghost gun” attack that also killed a valet at a San Diego hotel are expected to recover but two remained hospitalized, police said Monday.
Steven Ely, 68, of San Diego was shot in the torso in Thursday night’s attack and was in stable condition. Vincent Gazzani, 27, of Perrineville in Monmouth County, was shot in the upper body and also remained hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
Ely’s wife, Linda Ely, told KFMB-TV that the retired teacher has undergone two surgeries.
