SHC seeks arguments on KMC report on zoo animals

The Sindh High Court directed on Wednesday the petitioner s counsel to give arguments in the light of Karachi Municipal Corporation s (KMC) report in the case pertaining to animals deprived of natural environment at the zoo.
A two-member bench comprising, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, was hearing the plea. The KMC presented a report before the court, stating that judicial orders regarding the arrangements in Karachi Zoo have been implemented.
According to the report, the arrangements for the provision of natural environment to the bear have been made and the bear has been shifted in a new cage. The bear s new cage is five-times bigger as per the recommendation of experts committee.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the Sindh government to pay all the dues of the members of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) by June 7, warning that otherwise it will initiate contempt of court proceeding against the provincial government.
A SHC division bench – comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito – on Friday heard a CPNE petition seeking contempt proceedings against the Sindh government for not implementing an earlier court order for payment of dues.
The court expressed extreme displeasure when junior officers of the Sindh Department of Information and Department of Finance appeared before the court to represent their departments. It ordered the finance secretary and information secretary to ensure their presence at the next hearing.

The Sindh High Court sought on Friday a plan from the Karachi commissioner regarding the fixing of official milk prices in a plea pertaining to increasing rates.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, was hearing the plea.
The court asked who had appeared on behalf of the Karachi commissioner. The representative informed the court that Karachi additional commissioner is attending another court hearing. The bench inquired from the representative that what has been done practically to control the milk prices, on which the representative moved the application to adjourn the hearing for a short while.
