The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says Ghanaians deserve to know whether the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson is credible following the 2020 election petition.
Sammy Gyamfi feels Ghanaians who joined long queues and risked their lives in the midst of Covid-19 to vote, are eligible to know if the EC Chairperson was valid with her declaration of the 2020 presidential election.
His comments come after, the legal representative of the Electoral Commission presented to the Court that it will not call any witness to adduce evidence to its case.
According to the EC’s lead Counsel, Justice Amenuvor, the burden of proof in the petition hearing lies on the petitioner and therefore it will be wrong for the lead counsel for Mr Mahama to induce evidence from the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa.

The hearing of the 2020 Election Petition at the Supreme Court this week saw the continuation and conclusion of cross-examination of John Dramani Mahama’s first witness, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah on Monday, February 1, 2021.
The cross-examination ended with the second respondent, Nana Akufo-Addo’s lead counsel, Akoto Ampaw putting questions to the witness and requesting answers aimed at discrediting the witness’ own statement.
Prior to the commencement of the day’s sitting, Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah cautioned Frank Davies, one of the lawyers representing Nana Akufo-Addo against granting media interviews at the end of sittings.
Lawyers for the Electoral Commission (EC) in the 2020 election petition case have applied for the hearing on the review of the court rsquo;s ruling on the NDC rsquo;s interrogatories to be brought forward from Thursday, January 28, 2021, to Tuesday, January 26.
The Supreme Court says it has made arrangements to have proceedings of the 2020 Election Petition telecast live on national television.
Professor Nii Ashie Kotey, a member of the seven-member panel, said the Supreme Court decided on its own to allow for a live telecast of proceedings, saying, it was in the laws.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had requested that the Apex Court allowed the proceedings to be telecast live.
Mr. Mahama is praying the Court to annul the presidential election results and organise a “second election” between him and President Nana Addo.
