Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight hitters Augusto Sakai and Jairzinho Rozenstruik will clash TONIGHT (Sat., June 5, 2021) at UFC Vegas 28 inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both men enter their second main event slot in a row under similar circumstances. Both Sakai and Rozenstruik ascended the Heavyweight ladder quickly, building win streaks against quality competition to advance into the Top 10. However, upon closing in on the title mix, that next tier of UFC Heavyweight proved too much, and both athletes suffered losses as a result. Fortunately, since each athlete is still reasonably young and relatively new to the Octagon, there’s still plenty of time to rebuild, particularly if they can continue to maintain an active fight schedule.

Maurice “The Crotchet Boss” Greene is no longer on the UFC roster.
The heavyweight fighter took to social media on Tuesday evening to announce that he was released from the promotion just days after losing a unanimous decision to Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC Vegas 26. In a brief statement posted on Instagram, Greene wrote that he is remaining optimistic despite the release and looks forward to rebuilding under a new banner.
“When one door closes another one opens,” wrote Greene. “I have had ups and downs with the #ufc and today that relationship comes to an end. Look at the bright side I’m still in the best shape of my life. I’m physically and mentally #stronger than ever and the next chapter I am excited for. This game is unforgiving but hey I’m down for the challenge of making my name with a new promotion or the road back. The best is yet to come.”

Despite little promotion by the UFC, there is, in fact, a pay-per-view card on Saturday, May 12. UFC 224 takes place in Brazil and features a world title fight as its main event, no less.
In front of what will no doubt be a rowdy and enthusiastic Brazilian crowd, UFC bantamweight champion and native Brazilian Amanda Nunes defends her belt against Raquel Pennington. This will be the champ’s first title defense since her close victory over Valentina Shevchenko last year, and it will be Pennington’s first-ever title opportunity. This is Pennington’s first fight since defeating former champion Miesha Tate at UFC 205 in 2016. Will Nunes defend her belt for the third time? Or will the underdog Pennington pull off what would be considered a huge upset?
