The wining and dining scandal currently rocking the telecommunications ministry, now centering on one of its key stakeholders, is expanding to include four politicians who were formerly ministers or held senior ministerial posts there.
The weekly magazine Shukan Bunshun reported through its online platform on March 10 that officials from the telecommunications giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. hosted dinners for Seiko Noda and Sanae Takaichi on two occasions each when they served as telecommunications minister.

Former communications minister Seiko Noda on Thursday denied she had been wined and dined by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. as reported by a weekly magazine in the latest development of a scandal involving the telecom giant and the communications ministry.
Noda, executive acting secretary general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, made the denial a day after weekly magazine Shukan Bunshun said she was treated to lavish dinners by NTT presidents and officials in 2017 and 2018 while serving as minister of internal affairs and communications.

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. said Tuesday that it has set up a panel to investigate a scandal in which executives of the company wined and dined senior officials of the Japanese communications ministry.
The four-member panel is headed by Sadayuki Sakakibara, former chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and currently independent outside director of NTT.
The other three members are lawyers Takashi Iida, NTT’s independent outside auditor; Tetsuo Ito, former deputy head of the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office; and Hiroshi Inoue, former head of the Fukuoka High Public Prosecutor’s Office.
