good morning. i m wolf blitzer in washington, and this is special live coverage of the funeral of former supreme court justice sandra day o connor, the first woman to serve is on america s highest court. the service over at the washington national cathedral is set to start right at the top of the hour. president biden left delaware for washington, d.c., earlier this morning. he is set to arrive at the funeral any moment now, we are told. and he is going to be delivering a eulogy along with chief justice john roberts. o connor first met them in 1981, and roberts helped her to prepare for her confirmation where biden was the top person on the judiciary committee. and she earned in 1952 a law degree from stanford university in two years, but despite graduating top of the class, her gender kept her from joining a law firm, so she opened up her own law firm. she was mostly known for being appointed to the high court in 1981, but she is quickly one of the most influential justice
time. the crowds mostly silent. but then breaking out in applause as the procession neared westminster hall on grounds of parliament. that s where her body now lies in state and will remain until monday morning. the queen s coffin draped with the royal standard, her crown caried into the hall just a few hours ago. taking part in the mile-long walk from the palace to the queen s children, king charles, prince andrew and princess anne and the grandsons william and harry. william s wife kate and meghan, the queen consort rode behind in black cars. they joined the rest of the royal family for a service at westminster after the coffin arrived. amazing to think it was just a few months ago these streets were packed with londoners celebrating the queen s platinum jubilee. today many of those same people have gathered here again. taking the opportunity to bear witness and pay respects, but also to share the royal family s personal grief, a reminder that the queen really served three
the west coast. that continues to be bottled up across the desert southwest and the surrounding regions. sunday, we hit more daily record highs. 120 in china lake. fresno hit 114. 110 degree previous record high. and in death valley, california, death valley hit three difficult days of temperatures at or above 128 degrees. that s only happened a couple of other times in history. last time that occurred was in july of 2005, and then july 1913, we had six days, six consecutive days of temperatures above 128 degrees. we have excessive heat alerts in effect right now across the southwest. basically the entire state of nevada. once we get into the afternoon, we get up to 113 degrees in las vegas. that s eight degrees above average. death valley, 124 today.
