A joint sitting of parliament failed to meet a quorum on Wednesday after only 245 MPs and senators were present at the meeting to examine a charter amendment bid to curtail Senate powers.
The House committee vetting the controversial cannabis/hemp control bill on Wednesday agreed to remove Section 3 of the draft law which stipulates that cannabis and hemp were not considered narcotic substances under the Narcotics Act.
In a conspicuous move, the House of Representatives has renewed efforts to ditch the military-sponsored constitution. Earlier this month, the House unanimously approved by 323:0 votes a motion calling for a referendum on the drafting of a new constitution.
The opposition-sponsored motion seeking a referendum on the charter rewrite remains intact and can be tabled for a vote after parliament convenes in November, said chief opposition whip Sutin Klungsang.
