There is no truth to rumors that a barangay in Manila will be placed under lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the city’s public information office (PIO) said on Saturday (December 19).
Sought for clarification over the supposed lockdown, particularly in Tondo District which is circulating on social media, the PIO called it “fake news.”
“Wala pong ganyang iimplement ang Manila LGU (local government unit) (The Manila LGU is not implementing any lockdown),” Julius Leonen, the head of Manila PIO, told reporters via Viber message.
As of December 18, Manila has 24,185 confirmed COVID-19 cases, about 314 are active cases including 34 new cases.
