A long-awaited homecoming fight for Moruti Mthalane will no longer take place this weekend.
The reigning flyweight titlist is left without a fight for all of 2020, after his planned title defense versus Jayson Mama was abruptly canceled on Wednesday. The title fight was due to take place this Sunday in Mthalane’s hometown of KwaZulu-Natan, South Africa, but is no longer permitted to move forward due to event promoter Tono Promotions failing to meet the minimum standards required to proceed with the show.
“The tournament billed to stage the IBF World Flyweight Championship [defense] between Moruti Mthalane and Jayson Mama as the main bout and the WBA Middleweight Pan African title fight between Nkululeko Mhlongo and Walter Dlamini has been cancelled,” announced Boxing South Africa (BSA) in a letter issued to all involved parties, a copy of which has been obtained by BoxingScene.com. “BSA has
