Two recognized at Howard Payne s annual Yellow Rose Luncheon

Special to the Bulletin The Howard Payne University Women’s Club recently honored Teri (Davis) Andrews ’83 of Houston and Aleah Curtis, a sophomore theatre major from Georgetown, at this year’s Yellow Rose Luncheon. Andrews received the prestigious Yellow Rose Award and Curtis was the recipient of the 2021Yellow Rose Scholarship. The annual luncheon serves as a way for women from the community and friends of HPU to contribute to the Yellow Rose Scholarship Endowment. Table sponsorships and donations go toward the education of a qualifying female HPU student selected by the Women’s Club leadership team. This year’s Gold Sponsors are Bangs Flower and Gift Shop, Big Country Ford Lincoln, Elite Eight – Class of 1973, Grimsley Electric, Mr. Neal and Mrs. Sharon Guthrie, Mrs. Miki and Mrs. Ashley Martin, and Mrs. Bertha Mieth. HPU speech and debate team claims second debate sweepstakes championship at TIFA

HPU’s Student Speaker Bureau speech and debate team won debate sweepstakes and second place overall sweepstakes at the Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association Spring Championship tournament. Howard Payne University’s Student Speaker Bureau speech and debate team recently secured debate sweepstakes for the second time in a row and won second place overall sweepstakes at the Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association (TIFA) Spring Championship tournament. HPU competed against 15 colleges and universities from Texas. Dr. Julie Welker, professor of communication and chair of the Department of Communication, coaches the team.

HPU speech and debate team takes tournament sweepstakes Special to the Bulletin Howard Payne University’s Student Speaker Bureau speech and debate team recently secured debate sweepstakes for the second time in a row and won second place overall sweepstakes at the Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association (TIFA) Spring Championship tournament. HPU competed against 15 colleges and universities from Texas. Dr. Julie Welker, professor of communication and chair of the Department of Communication, coaches the team. “Being back-to-back debate sweeps champs and winning second place overall sweeps after last semester’s success is amazing,” Welker said. “I’m so proud of the hours of work these students put into our speech and debate program.”
