was especially close with his grandmother who survived the fire. 3-year-old deavian arnold was home this afternoon when the fire started. firefighters say it began in the kitchen on the stove and quickly began to cabinets and ceilings. neighbors tried to call 911 and tried to get in the apartment after seeing the boy knocking on the window in the back bathroom. we couldn t kick that door open. it had a dead bolt on it or something because we couldn t get it open. saw him tapping on the windows. reporter: firefighters and ambulances were on the scenes within minutes. they immediately found the grandmother lying unconscious on the floor and then searched the rest of the apartment? they found the child in the bedroom behind the bed between the bed and the wall. reporter: deavian was rushed to the hospital but it was too late. he was pronounced dead later in the afternoon. i just know we gonna miss him. we gonna miss him so much. reporter: family members gathered at the

who s running for governor. it s been a very busy day for them. quinn touring the state and julius making a stop at a number of places and ending here at a straupt in greek town with at least 150 supporters with them. quinn, meanwhile, as i mentioned flew around the state and did a campaign rally outside tonight in his headquarters. you can see his main focus today was on the project put illinois to work. both janewliuous and quinn have received quite a bit of support from the white house with president obama making several trips to chicago to support them as well as first lady michelle obama, she s made a stop here, as well as vice president joe biden. all of that hasn t been enough support to give either of them a commanding lead over the polls. janulluous was 3 points behind mark kirk, his opponent. similar with quinn who s neck and neck with bill brady. and tonight, you ask either candidate and they say things are looking good for tomorrow. we ve seen, quite frankly,
assault. his name is billy curl and he s 34 years old. he s a longtime resident of deb dekalb. this is the place where badly burned human remains were discovered october 16. police were led to him because he was in and out of that wooded park quite a bit. they tracked him to mexico. curl fled illinois on october 23 police say but came back to the states, louisiana to be specific. days later and was then taken into custody on tuesday night by u.s. marshals. the chief of police will not say exactly what happened to toni keller but curl and his victim did not know each other. he called it a crime of opportunity. investigators have no reason to believe, they say, that there are other victims that died at the hand of billy curl. they were in a secluded area. we know that she had walked to the park. he was in the park and found her. one simply cannot imagine the anguish they have endured the past two weeks. the family has been an inspiration to everyone involved in this invest
