Griffiths Street to Close for Drainage Works and a New Car Park in Port Fairy Works to provide additional carparking near Port Fairy’s popular East Beach and improve drainage on Griffiths Street are set to begin in the coming weeks. Moyne Shire Council Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said the essential road closures have been scheduled to take place after the May Race Day public holiday and following the popular tourist season. “These works on Griffiths Street and Hughes Avenue, Port Fairy are vital to maintaining and improving infrastructure for the safety of our community,” said Cr Meade. “Council is grateful for the funding provided by the Australian Government as part of its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and has allocated $480,000 to this project.”

Acting Premier James Merlino and Minister for Health Martin Foley today announced 161 new primary and secondary schools will be invited to take part in Smile Squad for Term 2, following a temporary pause during the pandemic. From Term 2, Smile Squad vans will be rolling out to schools in 10 new Local Government Areas, which include the Southern Grampians and Warrnambool.

Warrnambool Event Returns After COVID Enforced Break Warrnambool s Mother s Day Classic is returning after a COVID-enforced break in 2020, as participants get set to either walk or run the 3km course at Lake, on Sunday May 9. Committee member Jeff Hintum says this year participants will need to scan a QR code prior to starting, and there won t be the usual MC, music, marquees, coffee van, fruit or water supply or raffles due to COVID restrictions. Participants will also be required to pre register, with on the day registrations unfortunately not permitted. Warrnambool Landmarks To Turn Blue As Part Of State Memorial Warrnambool landmarks will be lit up blue tonight in remembrance of the Eastern Freeway tragedy where four police officers lost their lives in the line of duty one year ago today. Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell and Warrnambool Mayor Vicki Jellie worked together to ensure the Lighthouse Theatre and Archie Graham Centre could be lit up in memory tonight. Warrnambool’s landmarks will join others right across the state to be bathed in blue to remember Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor and Constable Joshua Prestney who were killed in the tragic crash on the Eastern Freeway while attending a routine traffic stop.
