Mitchell teacher vaccinations to get jump start this week

(REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo) The long-awaited start of getting vaccines to teachers will begin this week when Lewis Drug is expected to administer the shots to school employees starting Thursday, the Mitchell Board of Education heard at its most recent meeting Monday. Joe Graves, superintendent for the Mitchell School District, said during his monthly superintendent’s report that Lewis Drug recently contacted the district with the plan.

The Clark County Board of Health is carving out more meeting time as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.  The board, which consists of the Clark County Council, will meet from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month and 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Until now, the board has met one Wednesday each month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Council Chair Eileen Quiring O’Brien previously suggested extending the regularly scheduled meeting. “This has happened on several occasions where we really have no time whatsoever to either get clarification or ask questions because the information presented takes almost the entire hour,” Quiring O’Brien said during a council time meeting Wednesday. 

Advocate Safehouse Project continues its film festival tradition virtually

Advocate Safehouse Project hosts a virtual Luna Fest this year as a fundraiser featuring screenings of films made by women and about women. Allie Reyes said being able to see people who look and sound like you onscreen hits differently when you’re not used to having that kind of representation. “As a Latin person I think seeing representation on screen always gets me excited,” Reyes, the youth advocate at Advocate Safehouse Project (ASP), said. “I remember hearing my name Alejandra on like a makeup commercial and I screamed, because I have never seen that. So I think, for survivors too, (it’s empowering) to see themselves on screen and hear their story on screen and that they’re not alone.”

2021 ilani BrewFest To Support Local Restaurants of Clark County ilani BrewFest this coming weekend and this year things will be a bit different as the three-day event will be a fundraiser to support local restaurants. Taking place from February 19 – 21, ilani Brewfest will transition to Brews for a Good Cause to raise money to support local Clark County restaurants during this challenging time. Ten events throughout the weekend will feature local restaurants; beer and spirits from the Pacific Northwest and beyond; as well as special offerings from ilani’s signature restaurant Rose & Thorn. “ilani has been fortunate to be able to reopen safely for our guests and team members, but we know that many of our colleagues in the Southwest Washington restaurant community are hurting right now,” said Kara Fox-LaRose, president and general manager of ilani, in a release. “We are proud to offer our support alongside the Northwest Wine & Food Society, raising much-needed funds while
