Hit by COVID-19 in December, West Peoria family celebrates Christmas in May

COVID-19: West Peoria family celebrates Christmas in May amid pandemic

And just like the Grinch version, this tale has a happy ending. Tracy Carson and Jason Breymeier lost a big chunk of Christmas 2020 to COVID-19. So, on Saturday, the couple invited over a houseful of kin and threw a belated celebration with all the trimmings, including a tree, presents, cookies, outdoor lights and at least one ugly yuletide sweater. MERRY COVID CHRISTMAS! screamed a banner stretched outside their house. Carson, 43, and Breymeier, 42, love to celebrate Christmas. But right before the holiday, the childless couple caught the virus, as did many of her relatives. On Christmas Eve, she attended a gathering of much of her family, all of them already exposed to the virus, though Breymeier was too ill to leave home.
