An award-winning Christmas display has raised thousands of pounds for a children s charity.
John Burge transformed the front of his home in Worle into a vintage toy shop to raise money for Children s Hospice South West (CHSW).
His festive decorations drew spectators from across North Somerset, and won him first place in the Illumination Street Competition for the best small outdoor display.
John first began decorating his home for charity in 2011 and for the past few years has raised money for CHSW in Wraxall.
This year, John s display was lit in memory of his mum who died in April, and the tribute raised £3,275 for the charity.
STUDENTS at Bridgwater and Taunton College are getting creative this month to raise funds for a number of charities. The college s students have been taking part in RAGVENT to support Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), In Charley’s Memory, and Secret World Wildlife Rescue. So far, the pupils have created and sold Christmas cards and crocheted animals, taken part in head shaves, an ice-bucket challenge, live-streamed a music set, experienced leg waxing and been dressing up. To date they have raised more than £900 for the three charities. Julie Draper, Community Fundraiser at CHSW, said: “We’ve seen some really creative fundraising ideas from the team of students and they have hit the ground running with their fundraising. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do next!”

Festive bikers descended on North Somerset to raise money for a children s charity in Wraxall.
Each year thousands of Santas on motorbikes take part in a festive ride across the region for Children s Hospice South West.
Santas on a Bike was a little different this year, with bikers choosing their own routes and riding solo in aid of the cause.
Around 100 enthusiasts took part in the festive ride from December 4-6, raising more than £3,500 so far.
Julie Draper, community fundraiser at CHSW, said: “Despite Santas on a Bike having to be different this year, we are thrilled with the response from the riders and the public in showing their support for the children and families we care for.
