Virginia will lift all capacity and social distancing restrictions on June 15 if COVID-19 case numbers continue to drop and vaccination rates continue to rise, the governor said Thursday.
Gov. Ralph North cited strong progress in the fight against the virus, including drops in case counts, hospitalizations and deaths.
“We’re not at the finish line yet, and we still need to take the precautions that we all know work. But we’re approaching a time when we can think differently about how we interact, especially people who are vaccinated,” he said at a news conference.

Family of Virginia Police Shooting Victim Isaiah Brown Demands More Info NBC Washington Staff
Isaiah Brown
A Spotsylvania County, Virginia, sheriff’s deputy shot Isaiah Brown at least 10 times outside his home last week after mistaking a phone in his hand for a gun, the family’s lawyer said Monday.
“He made it totally clear that he did not have a weapon, that he did not have a gun,” Haynes said at a news conference, describing a “failure of communication” between 911 dispatch and the deputies who responded to Brown’s home on West Catharpin Road.
Brown was in intensive care at a hospital in Fredericksburg as of Monday morning. Surgeons were able to remove two bullets from his body; eight remained.
