A newly formed nonprofit called the Association of Alternative Food producers (AAFP) has joined forces with food awareness organization ProVeg to launch Russia’s first-ever incubator program dedicated to animal-free proteins. The program supports a range of startups in the alt-meat arena, from those working on cultured and plant-based products to those developing related technologies such as scaffolds and 3D bioprinting.
AAFP was founded by Tim Ponomarev and Julia Marsel, two graduates of the Berlin-based ProVeg incubator and the founders of vegetable meat company Greenwise (not to be confused with the Publix organic brand of the same name). Their goal is to contribute to the growth of alternative proteins in Russia and Russian speaking countries by supporting food companies and entrepreneurs.
Plant-based in Russia: Region’s ‘first’ incubator for animal-free food tech prepares to launch The newly formed Association of Alternative Food Producers (AAFPP) is preparing to welcome its first cohort of start-ups in the plant-based space. The incubator is an industry first for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), say its founders.
This year, AAFPP will open what it claims is the first Russian and CIS start-up incubator for food companies that produce or develop alternatives to food of animal origin.
Start-ups eligible for the programme fall into a number of set categories.
