Harold Bell, 94, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his children, on May 26, 2021. Harold, or Hank, as his friends called him, was the husband for over 68 years of his beloved wife and partner Bobby Bell, who died in 2017. Hank and Bobby did just about everything together, and they were the love of each other’s lives.
Hank was the oldest child of Leonard Bell and Rose Yaeger Bell, and the loving brother of Elizabeth (known as Betty). His father owned and operated a flower shop, and his mother was a homemaker, raising Hank and Betty, and also a sculptor and metalsmith in her later years. Hank often related lessons he had learned from his parents to his and Bobby’s children particularly how his father had to put up with a young Hank. Hank also was very close with Bobby’s much larger Brazel/Okrent/Otis family.

MADISON, Wis. – A community fridge in the 1000 block of E Johnson in Madison has a little more than a month to close up shop, after inspectors say it violates local zoning ordinance.
The concept, created in August, features a fridge enclosed in a wooden structure as well as an open air pantry. It’s goal was to help those in need, says Julia Levine, who hosts it.
“We’re living through a time where it’s an emergency. People are hungry, so we really felt it was time for the community to step up and put together this effort,” Levine said.

The city of Madison is pushing to shut down a community fridge on East Johnson street, citing violations of zoning policy. The fridge, which offers free food and drinks to food insecure Madisonians, is a grassroots initiative organized by residents in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Located just up the street from Burnie’s Rock Shop, the fridge has been in operation since last August. It started as a project by a group of employees at Troy Farms, a community-supported organic vegetable farm on the city’s north side.

Rebecca Potter has been a teacher in Letcher County, Kentucky, for 29 years, but she’s never had a school year quite like this one. Like most teachers across the country, she has been teaching her students remotely, with the aid of educational software like Google Classroom. But that transition has not been an easy one.
